June 2023 saw a series of cyber security incidents, with high-profile companies such as PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC), Ernst and Young (EY), Health Service Ireland and payroll provider Zellis falling victim to a cyber attack on document transfer service MOVEit, where ransomware gang Clop exploited a critical zero-day vulnerability. This was followed by a data breach on social media site Reddit, where ransomware gang ALPHV, also known as BlackCat, stole 80GB of data. Lastly, video game company Blizzard Entertainment was the victim of a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) cyber attack, where a number of games that Blizzard hosts, including Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft, went offline. All these incidents show the importance of cyber security, as companies must be aware of the potential threats and vulnerabilities that could lead to a breach of sensitive data.
